Students in grades K-12 enter their prose and poetry in this annual writing competition, judged by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga English Department. The AEC receives over 3,500 entries from Chattanooga and surrounding areas each year.

The AEC received 3,586 entries for the 2008 competition! The 350 winners, along with their families and teachers attended the awards ceremony on March 27, 2007, at the Memorial Auditorium. June McEwen delivered a wonderful keynote address to the elementary winners, reading from The Little Prince. Sean Price was the middle and high school keynote speaker.
