AEC Presents Max & Ruby on October 31st

The Arts & Education Council (AEC) will present a performance of Max & Ruby, on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Auditorium as part of its annual TheatreExpress series of professional dramas for student audiences.

Max & Ruby is a new musical based on the series of books by Rosemary Wells and the top-rated television on program on Nick Jr. and Noggin.  This tale of beloved bunny siblings Max and Ruby comes to life on stage by Theatreworks USA of New York City, America’s largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre for young and family audiences, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall (“Sesame Street,” Free to Be… You and Me, and the award-winning Broadway musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas).

After a brief New York City-area tour in spring 2007, two companies of Max & Ruby began their national tours in fall 2007, and it will premier at Off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre in December 2007.  The 60-minute show is recommended for audiences age 3 and up.

The AEC has been working with Theatreworks USA to bring professional, quality theatre productions to young Chattanooga audiences since 1989, when its TheatreExpress program became Chattanooga's only professional drama series designed for students in grades Pre-K through 12.  Productions tie in with school curriculum and help meet standard benchmarks in fine arts, language arts, social studies and more.

“The company has a distinguished history of providing young audiences with their first taste of the performing arts, and we are delighted to present Max & Ruby as part of our 2007-2008 TheatreExpress season,” says Laurel Eldridge, AEC program director.

Other productions in the 2007-2008 TheatreExpress series are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer on February 20, and Fish Face on April 30.  Tickets are $4.  Call the AEC at 423-267-1218 for reservations or click here for more information.
