Films are selected by an all-volunteer committee and submitted to Carmike Cinemas. Carmike then works with distributors to secure the line-up of films.
This series includes several Cannes and Golden Globe winners, as well as predicted Academy Award winners. The line-up also includes five foreign language films, including The White Ribbon, Golden Globe winner for Best Foreign Picture.
The AEC Independent Film Series is supported by sales of its Film Club Card, which entitles the cardholder to discounts on movie tickets, restaurants, arts events and retailers. Cards are $15 and can be purchase at the Majestic 12 box office or online.
“The Independent Film Series is one of AEC’s longest running programs, bringing critically-acclaimed, independent films to Chattanooga since the late 1960’s,” says AEC Executive Director Susan Robinson. “The series continues to offer thought-provoking alternatives to the typical blockbuster films, and play an integral role in Chattanooga’s growing film culture.”
