Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi brings her bold autobiographical sketches to the big screen in this animated tale of a feisty Iranian girl during the Islamic Revolution. When religious fundamentalists take control, the heroine and her friends are forced to wear the veil; social freedoms are curtailed. Worse is to come when Iran goes to war with Iraq. Eventually her parents send her abroad to receive a European education, but she loves her family and country too much to stay away for long.
