JAMES APPLEWHITE is recipient of such honors as the 1995 North Carolina Award in Literature, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the 1992 American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters' Jean Stein Award in Poetry. He has written eight books of poetry, including Daytime and Starlight.
