Outreach Programs

Writers in Residency occurs biennially The Writers in Residency program has been a part of the Conference since 1995, and offers area high school students the opportunity to meet and work with selected authors. The AEC provides books for participants. Approximately 15 writers visit area high schools during each Conference. Young Southern Student Writers occurs annually Download the 2006 Young Southern Student Writers Entry Form (deadline January 31, 2022) Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.   The Young Southern Student Writers program allows area students in grades K-12 to submit their own works in prose and poetry for review. Winners receive medals and an anthology of their works in a special ceremony each April. Since the program's 1999 inception, participation has increased from 500 to 2300, and has grown into an annual event.   back to Conference home page
