Sam Pickering— member of the Fellowship of Southern
Writers — was born and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. He teaches
English at the University of Connecticut. His books include academic
studies, travel books, and collections of personal essays. His most
recent books are Waltzing the Magpies, an account of a year
he and his family spent in Western Australia, and The Best of Pickering.
In 2005 Letters to a Teacher and Indian Summer, a
collection of familiar essays, will be published.
