Henry Taylor


Taylor is the author of five books of poems: The Horse Show at Midnight, An Afternoon of Pocket Billiards, The Flying Change, Understanding Fiction: Poems 1986-1996, and Brief Candles: 101 Clerihews. He has also published a collection of essays on recent American poets, Compulsory Figures, and translations of Greek and Roman classical drama. He has received the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, Fellowships in Creative Writing from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Witter Bynner Prize (1984) and the Michael Braude Lighy Verse Prize (2002) from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the 2004 Aiken Taylor Award in Modern Poetry.
