2011 AEC Back Row Film Series Kicks Off with Soccer Movie

by aec

The AEC Back Row Film Series kicks off its 7th season with a screening of the documentary film PELADA on Thursday, May 19, at 6:00 PM. The documentary will be shown at the US Elite Training complex, 6246 Dayton Boulevard. The evening will also include a silent auction of sports equipment, services and memorabilia, a Q&A; discussion with Chattanooga Football Club players, and refreshments.

Away from professional stadiums, bright lights, and manicured fields, PELADA shows another side of soccer. The documentary follows two former college soccer stars who take off playing pick-up games in unlikely places around the world. From prisoners in Bolivia to moonshine brewers in Kenya, from freestylers in China to women who play in hijab in Iran, PELADA is the story of the people who play. It's the version of the game played by anyone, anywhere--and it's a window into lives all around the world.

The Arts & Eduation Council event is sponsored by US Elite Training and the Chattanooga Football Club. Tickets are $5 for all ages and include popcorn. Seating is limited and advanced purchase is strongly encouraged. Buy online by phone (423-267-1218) or at the door.

About the AEC Back Row Film Series

The Arts & Education Council created the Back Row Film Series in 2005 to meet the Chattanooga community's increasing demand for more film programming. The Series is held from May through September at various venues in the city. Attendance has grown 35% in the past three years.

The Back Row Film Series takes film beyond the screen, giving audience members the opportunity to interact with filmmakers, to see films on important subjects, talk to the directors about the craft and discuss the subjects the films address. Program topics address issues that are relevant to the community and draw a diverse and engaged audience. The result is an innovative approach to film viewing that connects each art form and prompts conversations.
