by aec

The AEC's 2011 Spring Independent Film Series kicks off Friday, February 4, with ANOTHER YEAR, the latest drama from British director Mike Leigh (SECRETS & LIES, TOPSY-TURVY, VERA DRAKE, and HAPPY-GO-LUCKY).

The film will play at the Majestic 12 Theatre, 311 Broad Street, from February 4 - 10. Call 423-826-2375 or check local listings for showtimes.

About the Film: A married couple who have managed to remain blissfully happy into their autumn years, are surrounded over the course of the four seasons of one average year by friends, colleagues, and family who all seem to suffer some degree of unhappiness. The film is an Academy Award nominee for Best Original Screenplay.

Praise for ANOTHER YEAR:
"Another marvel of perfectly drawn, fully realized characters created from the ground up and brought to aching and glorious life." -- Dallas Morning News

"What a challenge it must be to mine our ordinary lives in ways that reveal and revel in the quietly meaningful. It is a challenge British writer-director Mike Leigh meets in Another Year." - Denver Post

"Mike Leigh creates complete little universes in his films, lived-in worlds populated by naturalistic characters who behave not like people in movies behave, but the way people in real life behave." -Arizona Republic

"The acting is ... uniformly terrific, and Manville as Mary is particularly outstanding. It's virtuoso work in every sense." --MSN Movies

"'Another Year' is a gutsy movie, in that Leigh says something about life that nobody really wants to believe, and he says it forcefully: There is such a thing as 'too late.'" -- San Francisco Chronicle
