SMITH is a poet, novelist, critic, and co-editor of The Southern Review. He
is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, a National
Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship, and an American Academy and
Institute of Arts and Letters Award.
